The year was 1592 when university scholar Robert Greene's pamphlet hit the streets of London. Entitled Groats-worth of Wit, the pamphlet contained caustic criticisms of a young actor and playwright who had recently made quite a name for himself in a short time on the London stage:
"...for there is an upstart Crow, beautified with our feathers,
that with his Tiger's heart wrapped in a Player's hide, supposes
he is as well able to bombast out a blank verse as the best of
you and being an absolute Johannes fac totum, is in his own
conceit the only Shake-scene in a country."
This young thespian was, of course, William Shakespeare.
We at Upstart Productions aim to create an environment in which local Upstart Crows can hone their skills before flying on to greatness while helping subsequent generations to do the same.
